Time Slice Photography – Free Script/Software for Photoshop

What is Time Slice Photography?

Check out some cool examples below

Time Slice Diagonal Slices Right To Left Forward ShadowTime Slice Vertical Slices (Images by by Piotr Potepa)Time Slice Vertical Slices Right To Left Backward ShadowTime Slice Oval Slices

Some more examples on google here and here.

Thus, Time Slice Photography is basically taking pictures of the same place, at different times of the day. Once we have all the pictures taken, select the best of the lot, maybe do some color correction, and then create slices such that we get 1 full image made up of various slices.

What Does this Script/Software For Photoshop Do?

Well, once you have all the images in an ‘in’ folder, just run the script. The script will ask for ‘input’ folder,’output’ folder, ‘output file’ name. Just provide the input and relax, while the script does the difficult part for you. The script will create the photo slices based on the number of images found in the input folder. The script processes all images one by one and finally outputs a single jpg file, which is the final result of Time Slice Photography.

Thus making life easy for any photographer looking for a Time Slice Photography for his/her work or portfolio.

Now, let’s see the Photo Slicing Script in action below in a demo video. All images are thanks to Mr. Kirti Mandalaywala.

    1. Hi Jay,

We have 2 versions of the script, Free and Pro. Free version has image size restrictions, Pro version doesnt.

If you like the script, consider getting Pro Version.

      Thanks and Cheers

  1. Hi,
For some reason the pro script starts at image 10 in the sequence and then splices the image together until it gets to the end of my images, then does 1-10. Please help.

    1. Hi Jacob,

Kindly check the names of the images to be processed if they are in order.

I have also sent you a personal email, kindly reply to it and I will look into it.

      Thanks for the feedback.

      Cheers

  2. This is FANTASTIC. Will be buying the pro version soon.

Any chance of adding a diagonal option so I can do something like this?

Not as important, but would also be great to have the option to overlap the layers slightly, to create a look like this:

    Keep up the good work!

    1. 1. Diagonal slices
      2. Slices with shadows (overlap the layers slightly)

both of them are in pipeline and would be available with next version.

  3. Another suggestion:

Would be great to have an option to choose WHICH frames are used.

    For example: Option for 1 in 5 images = 1, 5, 10, 15.

That would obv change the width of strips/the effect.

If you do that would also be great to choose the number of the FIRST image too – eg from 12, then 17, 22, 27 etc.

This would get around some awkward positioning – eg a lamp falling in light area when it would look better lit up in the dark.

    1. Hi,

      thanks for the valued suggestion,

Would be great to have an option to choose WHICH frames are used.
What you mentioned will make the dialog box complicated to understand and use, I would like to keep it simple.
Work around – You can always use the same script to do what you want, all you have to do is pre-process your input folder to contain only the images you want to process.

    1. Hi Garry,

The script hasnt been tested on PS Elements. You can download it and give it a try.

Let us know how it goes.

      Thanks

  4. I use the free version, when I execute the script he takes the photos randomly (photo14, photo22, photo01 etc) why?

    1. Hi, Can you let me know if you are on which OS, Windows or Mac?

Also what version of PS are you using?

      1. Thank you for your answer.
It seems that the new version is a bug, I prepare the timeslice and when I click on Time Slice It the application writes me “aborted by the user”
I am under mac hight Sierra with photoshop CC a day.

        1. Hi Nicolas,

Thanks for the message. The ‘Aborted’ message shows up in following cases.
          A. If the Cancel button is clicked on the dialog box.
          B. If for some reason the input(s) in dialog box are not provided properly.

The script has been tested on Windows10 latest PS and it works fine. For Mac testing, I am dependent on good users like you to debug if any issue pop’s up.

Could you kindly rerun the script and check if all the fields are filled. If possible, Record everything and share the video for me to investigate.

          Thanks

          1. Hi,

            Thanks for the message.

The issue has been resolve, kindly try again.

Thanks and I look forward to your feedback on the script.

            Regards

  5. Hello,
I buy the pro version, but I’have a problem.
I do a time slice with 30 photos but the result is not good.
The program does not put the pictures in the correct order. You can see the result : http://flodidees.free.fr/DIVERS/TS-result.jpg
I choose vertical slices left to right and drop show “no” because I don’t understand what is it.
Sorry for my english, I’m French.
Can you help me please ?
    Windows 10, photoshop CS5

    1. Thanks for the message and the purchase.
Let me try to help you with all your queries.
      > I do a time slice with 30 photos but the result is not good.
A: all the images are sorted by file-name and so make sure images names are accordingly set. If that doesn’t solve your problem, kindly share the input images with me to investigate.
      > I choose vertical slices left to right and drop show “no” because I don’t understand what is it.
A: Drop shadow is a feature to add a bit of shadow to each slice.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

  6. Hola no me deja descargar la version de prueba. El enlace no me descarga nada, me dice que mi carrito de compras esta vacio. Como puedo solucionarlo? Gracias

    1. Hi,

      Thanks for the message.

The issue has been resolve, kindly try again.

Thanks and I look forward to your feedback on the script.

  7. Hi Anil, I’ve been testing de pro script. I think is really good but I have a suggestion for you.
I think it would be much better if the scrip could align the images before doing its magic. Don’t you think that?
    Thanks & best regards.

    1. Hi,

      Thanks for the message.

If you mean to align the images on the same angle, size and/or rotation, that wouldnt be possible because script cannot ‘see’ images, it just slice them with calculated measurements. The Timeslice images are suppose to be taken at the same spot, but at different time(s).

If you mean something else, please to let me know.

      Thanks

      Anil

  8. Hello! Thanks for creating the script, it helps me a lot!

A few suggestions for future improvement

    1. allow importing .tiff file instead of jpg ONLY
    2. allow saving as .psd or tiff for further and better editing
    3. provide save setting of jpg quality

If the above is not possible, I would love to know the reasoning 🙂

    1. Hi Jack,
      Thanks for your feedback.
The idea is to keep it simple as the target audience(mostly photographers) is someone who wants the results with minimal complexity.
      1. tiff could be added as input however I don’t think any photographers would be using tiff files.
      2. Again, idea is to keep it simple for the audience. The End result provided is jpg/png.
      3. Same thing, jpg quality of 12(max) is used and settings not provided. Since setting would be different for jpg and png and that would make the UI a bit complex.

Hope that answers all your queries. Have you got the Pro version yet? Or are you considering?

Also, can you share some of your output, please?

      Regards
      Anil

    2. I support the idea with Tiff, PSD.
It would be great if I could change, move or edit individual segments.

      1. Hi, thanks for your feedback.
Individual segments cant be moved since they are sliced to the location/position. Moving them would mess up the results anyways.
        Regards

        1. Hi Anil,

Have you reconsidered about implementing the ability to input and output TIFF files? I export TIFF’s from Capture One and it would remove a workflow step to convert them to JPEG’s before using your script.

          Regards

  9. Hi – before I download this, can you tell me if it has been tested on MAC running Mojave – and the latest CC version of Photoshop… thank you.

    1. No, I am on Windows OS and so I havnt tested it on Mojave. However there has been no issue reported by any of the users so far.
Kindly test it and confirm for all of us 🙂 .
      Thanks

  10. Hi, I bought the pro version and wanting to make a time slice with 69 pictures. I read the previous comments and named my pictures in order but when I ran it in the script, it still did not order the pictures in order. Any reason why that is?

    1. The script sort the images by names and so kindly make sure the image names are in order like
      image-01.jpg, image-02.jpg… image-10.jpg and so on…
01,02,03,04,05,06,07,08,09,10….67,68,69 (note the prepend 0 in case of number less than 10)
Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
      Regards

  11. Great script! I am having fun playing with the free version currently. I will most likely purchase the pro version soon, as I am really enjoying it. I would love it if there was a batch option so that it created all 8 of the Output patterns with just one click. I am not sure if it is possible or not, but that would be amazing!
